About Amanda

I don’t claim to be an animal expert. However, I am “that animal person” that my friends and acquaintances tend to approach first with their animal-related questions. It all comes back around to my love for animals and my goal of advocating for them on a regular basis, with the hope of educating others about animal issues not commonly thought about. I’m not just a dog person or just a cat person--I am an animal person. I spend most of my volunteer hours advocating for our furry friends, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I aim to include animals into my life-long career in one aspect or another, and I recently accepted a coordinator position at my local humane society (which I love). I received my masters degree in nonprofit management in early August 2011, and I received my bachelor degrees in journalism in 2007 and anthropology in 2008.

Part of my life’s mission can be summed up in a well-known yet still-powerful quote by cultural anthropologist Margaret Mead: “Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has.”

Blog Mission
Amanda Talks Animals encourages readers to open their minds to animal-related ideas, issues, and volunteerism that may or may not be common knowledge. Readers are also encouraged to start conversations and ask questions about blog posts and to share the stories, ideas, or issues with others in order to spread awareness about animals and their importance to all of us. It only takes one person to make a positive difference in a community and in our world.
